The first thing to do is to make sure that there is a bed bug infestation. There is nothing to distinguish bite marks left by bed bugs from bite marks left by other insects like mosquitoes. Observe whether there are distinctive reddish fecal spots and marks left by the bedbugs on garments such as bed clothes or mattresses. Also look for eggs or skins shed in the process molting, in crevices and other places. Afterwards unnecessary crevices and holes should be caulked thoroughly so that they cannot be used again.
